What works in early years: is there a role for research?

This conference will provide a unique opportunity to
debate the best available national and local evidence on ‘what works’ in early years and will consider research priorities in the new political landscape. Findings will be presented on the extensive early years research  reviews commissioned by C4EO (the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People’s Services) to answer three questions identified as key by the Children’s Sector:

  • How can effective practices in early years help reduce the impact of disadvantage?
  • What are the key defining features of well integrated early years services that can make a difference to children’s lives?
  • How can young children’s attainment be improved through family-based support for early learning?

The conference is jointly organised by the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) and C4EO, and will bring together academic and research experts, policy makers and opinion informers for a lively debate about the role of research in shaping future early years policy and practice.

The event will include keynote speeches from Iram Siraj-Blatchford, one of the authors of the C4EO early years reviews, Sue Owen, the C4EO Early Years Lead, and Naomi Eisenstadt, former Director of the Sure Start Unit.
